Eminence in April Carol Pranulis
High Plains members Carol Pranulis and David Alburty recently made their first overnight trailride trip. Armed with a new trailer and horses dubiously loaded, they made their way from Drexel, Missouri down to Cross Country Trail Ride in Eminence, Missouri.
The trails consist mostly of old logging roads through thousands of acres of the most scenic Country in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks. They cross the Jack's Fork and Current Rivers which are know through out the country as two of the most pristine and scenic rivers in the United States...The variety of trails ranges from peaceful river riding, packed roads for corto and largo, to challenging mountain riding. The trails are well cut but the terrain is rocky and hilly. Horses require shoes. The Ozarks also has a herd of wild horses that are protected and allowed to roam free. We had the privilege of seeing two snow- white stallions with fine mane and tails in the woods. They might have been part Paso; they looked it. We had the pleasure of riding with Paso Finos and Foxtrotters and were personally guided by the on site veterinarian. Our trailriders included John and Bonnie Niebruegge from Kirksville, Mo. on their Pasos, Dave riding his mare Sarah del Pasador and Carol having a shakedown cruise on her newly acquired Paso mule. The equines showed no signs of tiring as we covered tens of miles each day. Carol and Dave cannot claim the same.
The red buds and dogwoods were in bloom, the weather was clear (if a little nippy in the A.M.), and as a bonus there was a bluegrass festival going on. Because the festival was the main event, we enjoyed the run of the place without many riders. I hear that it gets quite hectic with the thousands of horses in the area in the summer. The anemities include 3,000 stalls, camping facilities, and during each ride, there is a featured entertainer. Meals are included , and the entertainment such as concerts, horse shows, team penning, team roping, dancing and swimming are available. For those not inclined to camp there are nearby hotels, motels, and B&B accommodations. Consider limping on down to Eminence for your Spring ride! HAPPY TRAILS
