Kanopolis Trail Ride 2002
If you didn't make it to the Kanopolis trail ride October 4 through October 6, you missed a great time. The trails are beautiful. The campground is great and very nicely laid out with bathrooms and a shower building. It is set up totally for trail riders. We had beautiful weather, starting out crisp in the morning and warming up by early afternoon.
High Plains members attending were Jeff and Donna Peterson and grandaughter Kelsey Goering, Esther and Eric Eoppliger, Phil D'Amico, Betty Thompson, and George Mangham and his niece and her husband. There were also 5 non-Paso people in attendance.
Friday evening we all gathered at our camp site and enjoyed our evening meal together. Cooking outdoors was great and sometimes challenging. We gathered around the campfire together and talked horses and enjoyed each other's stories. After breakfast Saturday, we all spent the day riding and enjoying the beautiful scenery. There are three canyons and several water crossings. We took off in two different groups with Judy Newton leading one and Jeff leading the other.
Saturday evening each group made their own meals and then gathered around the campfire for more tales and good times. Bed came early for most of us, since the day was spent in the saddle. Sunday morning we were up and out on the trails again enjoying the beautiful weather. We took in the eagle boxes and the entire wildlife area trail. Most of us rode until late afternoon and then broke camp for home.
This was a great time and Jeff and I are looking forward to sponsoring the same ride next year October 3, 4, and 5, 2003. For those of you who are not interested in camping, you can bring your horses to the campground and spend the night in Lindsborg at the motel about 20 miles away and drive over for the ride the next day. Please mark this on your calendar and plan on attending next year. We are also looking into some other trails for camping and riding. Anyone interested, contact us at (620) 628-4654 or email at risingcreek@mpks.net. We love trail riding and are interested in day rides as well as camping. If you like, we'll help organize a ride in your area if there are trails available. Plan ahead for next year and let's have a great time with the best trail riding horses on earth!
